I recently sold my home and was told a home inspection is required for a sale. Is that true or was I duped into making a bunch of repairs (improvements) to the house?
I don’t know about being duped, but, no. A home inspection is not a requirement of a home sale. Neither is a pest and wood rot inspection. Home buyers usually want one of these inspections, they usually pay for it, and then the results of any inspection can be a point of contention for the sale going through. The seller is not required to make any repairs and the buyer is not required to accept the condition of the house. You can see how one or both parties often need to flex in order for the sale to proceed.
